Jaxon's First Month, Part I

Week 1

Well, we spent about 4 days in the hospital, you and me and daddy, when you were born..

Mummy had to have you via C-section cos you were breech and mummy developed pre-eclampsia at the last minute. Here's Aunt Cindy and Aunt Judy with mummy in the prep room before she was wheeled off to the Operating Theater

Your daddy was very nervous ( as was mummy ), and held mummy's hand throughout the procedure. Being a very tall man, he could see over the "curtain" that was shielding us from the "actual goings on", and saw stuff he wishes he hadn't, but he was very brave.....

Afterwards, mummy spent a few days hooked up to all kinds of stuff to help prevent clots in her legs, to give her pain medication, to give her medication to help her uterus contract etc etc...

Meanwhile, you were blissfully unaware that we were not allowed home until mommy had passed gas, which would meant her bowels had recovered from the surgery she had had. Alas, she couldn't pass gas even though the really nice nurse in charge had given her several cups of warm apple juice, prune juice, and various other, er, things. It was horribly painful not to be able to "toot", and more so not to be able to go home, but finally it happened ( mummy had like 8 major TOOTS in the bathroom later in the night ), and we went home the next day.

Daddy's first week with baby:
"I don't dare love him too much, he's just so tiny and fragile.."

"Yikes, look at that hairy back! Who is this, Robin williams??"
Other significant first week happenings:

You receive your social security card and number in the mail

Week 2

Week 2 was the beginning of many firsts... (of many more to come )

Your first visit to the pediatrician's clinic went well. You were definitely calmer than your mom and dad, who weren't sure what to do... Your mom has set i/v lines and collected blood from hundreds of babies when she was a doctor, and thought nothing of it, but when the nurse came in to prick your heel to collect blood for newborn screening, your mommy could not even look in that general direction, and was cringing the whole time. Your mom and dad are NOT looking forward to your 2 month visit which entails VACCINATIONS!

First outing to McD's for lunch with grandad.. let's not make a habit out of this, ya? In your defence, you do look quite indifferent to the cuisine...

First Taco Tuesday outing with the gang.. Judging from that grimace on your face, I can see you don't quite care for Mexican food yet...

We didn't have the regular Letti Thursday, so your introduction to the tradition was a meal at Cracker Barrel instead, with grandad, uncle lin, aunt judy and uncle jim. Aunt judy loved holding you so much!

Our church celebrated its 50th anniversary on April 12th, and although you had been to church the week before, this week there was a luncheon at ACU as part of the anniversary celebrations. So there ya have baby's first luncheon/banquet.

You pretty much slept through a bunch of your "First"s, but hey, we have the pictures to prove they DID happen...LOL...

This picture of you cracks your daddy and I up..with you in your Boppy Bouncer with the infant "neck thingy" over your head. We can't decide if it looks more like giant earmuffs, giant fuzzy earphones, a bonnet or an out of control blue afro. Speaking of your bouncer, you love to watch the little sun hanging deal that has a little unbreakable mirror in it.. :)

You do so much in your sleep that you even smile and sometimes laugh uncontrollably with belly shaking "hah hah hah"s too!

Of course, when you wake up, then it's all business....

Daddy's quotes from the 2nd week
"My son... ( with a proud beaming face ), I love you immensely!"

"How can someone with no chin be so cute?"
