Week 5 & 6

Week 5

Male bonding time....
Daddy has you in a little Snugli carrier, ready to explore the sights and sounds outside in the yard.....we also have an Infantino Easy Rider  that we received at the baby shower, but we are now thinking of getting something along the lines of a peanut shell sling.

You love looking around and taking in everything with your ever-improving vision, and can follow objects that mummy shows you from side to side.

Photobucket

You look so little in this picture compared to the 8 - 10 oz feeding bottle.  We sometimes feed you pumped mommy-milk with it, but mainly to supplement with a little bit of formula when you've literally drained mommy's supply and are still hungry for more.  Mommy nurses you on demand but sometimes growth spurts can be particularly brutal.

You have recently learned that if you are napping or sleeping, and wake up, you can sometimes soothe yourself back to sleep by sucking on your fist. Of course, that makes for quite a sticky hand sometimes :)

You had your first major pooperage incident the other day, and leaked out the leg part of the diaper, onto mommy's shirt, as well as up the back of the diaper onto YOUR back.

Mommy quickly got daddy to come look; daddy's reaction was horror followed by a resounding "Run Away!", whilst mommy grinned and whipped out the camera.

We've been trying to do "tummy time" with you, to help you develop strong neck and arm muscles, among other things.. and so far, you can do tummy time for about 5 minutes or so at a stretch. Each week we see you be able to lift your head just that little bit higher :)

Your sleep patterns are still kind of erratic, which is expected, although you ARE sleeping a little bit longer these days.. I suppose your tummy can hold more now and you are able to be satiated for a longer period of time before needing to feed again.

Photobucket

But being your worry wort mom, I worry when you don't get enough sleep, and I worry when it feels like you've slept too long! How ridiculous is that?

Photobucket

You are also growing so fast ( babies grow in their sleep? ) that mommy has had to sort through your clothes and put away those that you can't fit in anymore, and swap them for sizes that would fit.  Thank God for cousin Max's clothes!

Week 6

Obviously you spend a bunch of time with mommy, and you might not remember this as you get older, but mommy spent a lot of time with that SHIRT that she has on in this picture, mainly because it gives you easy access for feeding!

Photobucket

We've been trying to read to/ read with you, and have several pretty neat soft cloth "baby blessings" books which, when the mood strikes you, you really are enthralled with.

Photobucket

Here you're doing your Dragon Ball hair impersonation.

Although tummy time isn't your favorite thing right now, we're sure that when you get stronger, you will love being more in control of those ( for now ) flailing arms and legs..

Photobucket

One of the more exciting things that happened that week was you got to ride in a police car!
One of our neighbors, who lives behind our place, is a state trooper. One day, daddy's truck died by the side of the road on the way home from PICKING IT UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP AFTER HAVING REPAIRS DONE.... and our neighbor was passing by and gave us a lift home! Can you spot the shotgun shells and radar stuff in the pictures ??

Daddy quotes :

"You look just like your momma,,,,,
Couldn't you try to look a little bit like me?" *smiles*

"He's got a crease in his thighs where there isn't a joint!"

"Wow, when he wears his hospital/newborn clothes now, he's got this midriff-baring thing going on, they're so small already"

Jaxon's First Month, Part II

Week 3

Mummy has been bringing you over to Grandad's on Friday mornings for the ladies' bible class, and everyone loves you to bits, and can't wait for their turns to hold you :)

Photobucket

We brought you to George's Asian food place, and even though you couldn't quite try out the excellent fare there yet, we're sure you would lurve lurve lurve it, like your mommy does.

Photobucket

We've been waiting patiently for you to crack your first "awake and alert" real smile, but as for now, you often sport a pretty "pensive" look, absorbing everything around you like a little sponge... ( Maybe you're wondering why you only have one sock on .. ) You've also been sleeping on the bed with mommy and daddy - it helps keep mummy sane that way, to nurse you lying down, because she is just totally exhausted and sleep deprived, and saves BOTH of you a lot of wear and tear. One night you turned onto your side AND THEN onto your stomach, and totally freaked your daddy out.

Photobucket

You seem to enjoy the outdoors, and we brought you out in your little carrier out to get the mail. Mummy had to shield your delicate skin from the sun with a cowboy hat. We promise we'll get your own cowboy hat soon.

Photobucket

Week 4

You're kind of fickle minded when it comes to diaper changing. Sometimes you don't mind it so much, but sometimes it seems like the worse torture in the world...especially when you're desperately hungry and would rather have a full stomach than an empty/clean diaper. And you've started crying with tears, which totally breaks my heart.

Photobucket

However, one of the things that you love is the little mirror thingy that we've set up by your diaper changing area, especially the little colorful dragonfly, which keeps you mesmerized. You've even tried to swipe at it!

Photobucket

At the church family / baby room , however, we have to figure out different ways to distract you during diaper changes :) Oh, and btw, Daddy's been practising, and getting better at changing your diapers!

Photobucket

Another way daddy's been bonding with his little man, is swinging on the swing outside and giving mommy a little breather and a chance to catch up with like, a shower, for instance. You love swinging with daddy and often drift off into a blissful slumber.. You look sooo tiny next to daddy.. no worries, you're growing bigger and stronger every single day!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Meanwhile, you need all the rest you can get, learning and assimilating all the information you are absorbing.. being a baby and learning everything about the world around you is hard work!

Photobucket

Daddy Quotes :

"Look at 'em jowls!"

"I can't wait to see how much he's grown.... Maybe we can weigh him on the grocery scales at Walmart"

"I wish everyone could see how much cuter he looks in person!"

Jaxon's First Month, Part I

Week 1

Well, we spent about 4 days in the hospital, you and me and daddy, when you were born..

Mummy had to have you via C-section cos you were breech and mummy developed pre-eclampsia at the last minute. Here's Aunt Cindy and Aunt Judy with mummy in the prep room before she was wheeled off to the Operating Theater

Photobucket

Your daddy was very nervous ( as was mummy ), and held mummy's hand throughout the procedure. Being a very tall man, he could see over the "curtain" that was shielding us from the "actual goings on", and saw stuff he wishes he hadn't, but he was very brave.....

Photobucket

Afterwards, mummy spent a few days hooked up to all kinds of stuff to help prevent clots in her legs, to give her pain medication, to give her medication to help her uterus contract etc etc...

Photobucket

Photobucket

Meanwhile, you were blissfully unaware that we were not allowed home until mommy had passed gas, which would meant her bowels had recovered from the surgery she had had. Alas, she couldn't pass gas even though the really nice nurse in charge had given her several cups of warm apple juice, prune juice, and various other, er, things. It was horribly painful not to be able to "toot", and more so not to be able to go home, but finally it happened ( mummy had like 8 major TOOTS in the bathroom later in the night ), and we went home the next day.

Photobucket

Daddy's first week with baby:
"I don't dare love him too much, he's just so tiny and fragile.."

"Yikes, look at that hairy back! Who is this, Robin williams??"
Other significant first week happenings:

You receive your social security card and number in the mail

Week 2

Week 2 was the beginning of many firsts... (of many more to come )

Your first visit to the pediatrician's clinic went well. You were definitely calmer than your mom and dad, who weren't sure what to do... Your mom has set i/v lines and collected blood from hundreds of babies when she was a doctor, and thought nothing of it, but when the nurse came in to prick your heel to collect blood for newborn screening, your mommy could not even look in that general direction, and was cringing the whole time. Your mom and dad are NOT looking forward to your 2 month visit which entails VACCINATIONS!

Photobucket

Photobucket

First outing to McD's for lunch with grandad.. let's not make a habit out of this, ya? In your defence, you do look quite indifferent to the cuisine...

Photobucket

First Taco Tuesday outing with the gang.. Judging from that grimace on your face, I can see you don't quite care for Mexican food yet...

Photobucket

We didn't have the regular Letti Thursday, so your introduction to the tradition was a meal at Cracker Barrel instead, with grandad, uncle lin, aunt judy and uncle jim. Aunt judy loved holding you so much!

Photobucket

Our church celebrated its 50th anniversary on April 12th, and although you had been to church the week before, this week there was a luncheon at ACU as part of the anniversary celebrations. So there ya have baby's first luncheon/banquet.

Photobucket

You pretty much slept through a bunch of your "First"s, but hey, we have the pictures to prove they DID happen...LOL...

This picture of you cracks your daddy and I up..with you in your Boppy Bouncer with the infant "neck thingy" over your head. We can't decide if it looks more like giant earmuffs, giant fuzzy earphones, a bonnet or an out of control blue afro. Speaking of your bouncer, you love to watch the little sun hanging deal that has a little unbreakable mirror in it.. :)

Photobucket

You do so much in your sleep that you even smile and sometimes laugh uncontrollably with belly shaking "hah hah hah"s too!

Photobucket

Of course, when you wake up, then it's all business....

Photobucket

Daddy's quotes from the 2nd week
"My son... ( with a proud beaming face ), I love you immensely!"

"How can someone with no chin be so cute?"
