A Momentous er, Moment

You're 3 months old today, babyness!
Photobucket

which means you are now no longer a newborn but an actual INFANT. It's funny that there is a distinction, but crazy as it sounds, in just the last couple of days, you
  • have suddenly discovered your thumb ( hey, I caught you sucking on it, bub ) as opposed to sucking your entire fist,
  • lift your head and "some" chest up surprisingly well at tummy time ( which for some reason you don't hate as much now ),
  • WANT to sit up, and when you are propped up, you try to lift your head to try and sit up straight,
  • would sleep 4 - 5 hours at a stretch at night before needing a feeding,
  • kick up less of a fuss before actually sleeping for that stretch
  • are also at the same time staying awake for longer periods of time
  • are smiling so much more ( although you still have your cranky hours ), and we even caught several little "laugh"s
  • actually seemed to bat at on purpose, the little infantino peek-a-boo ducky rattle that was on your car seat carrier handle
  • grasp my shirt while feeding
  • have become quite the chatterbox when it strikes you, what with your "aaah!"s and "angoooo"s and "ehhh!"s which can get quite loud!
  • are supporting some weight with your legs and push down when held upright
  • are crying less.. just a little, but every little bit of "less crying" helps!
On the mommy front, Aunt Flo is back. In fact, she popped in twice this month. First on the 4th, and then on the 27th. Her visits were shorter and lighter than usual, though. I suppose postpartum and breastfeeding makes for an inconsistent irregular Aunt Flo.

A TMI Post

Photobucketvs Photobucket

Your dad rolls his eyes when I tell him that even though your poo looks like mustard ( and when it gets on your clothes, it creates quite the mighty stain that takes soaking and whatnot to get rid of ), to me it smells like buttered popcorn.

I know. Weird.

One Hot Tamale

Photobucket

The weather in Texas has been scorching, reaching into the 102s and 103s during the day. You often get too warm even in your onesies, so when we're at home ( and out of the public eye ), we take off your clothes and just let you lounge in your diapers. I think you are glad for that too, because your naps are longer and you seem less fussy.

You have been sucking on your hands/fists for a while now, and the pace seems to have picked up. You're either discovering your hands or I must have been a bad mom and keeping you hungry. You often raise one fist or the other, and it seems like you're studying them, although it doesn't really look like you're focusing on your hands. Oh well.

Other than that, you're growing by leaps and bounds and getting stronger. I hadn't done tummy time with you in a while because you absolutely hate it, but when we tried today, I was very delighted and surprised to see you lift your head so much higher! Yippee for baby!

We watched some Baby Einstein on the puter on You tube today, and you were quite mesmerized. I guess the people over at Baby Einstein know what they're doing.

And now for some daddy quotes..

"It's like he has this GPS on you ( mummy ) . Even if he is sleeping and you leave the room, he knows and wakes up!"

"I just wanna squeeze and squeeze him, he's such a cherub"

"You know, I'm getting attached to the kid. I'm serious." * AWWWW *

"He was such a skinny kid when we brought him home and look at him now, what a chunk! Must be all this USDA Grade A milk he's getting from his momma"

Daddy Quote of the Day

"The kid is like a love sponge.. He's sucking up all your love with hardly enough left for me."

Photobucket

Awwwww... I still love you to pieces, honey. There's enough love to go around several times over :)

You're Famous!

Now how many people can say that they were on the front page of the local newspaper before they even hit 3 months of age? *smiles*

Why is it that

when I have tried umpteen ways for a few hours to help you sleep when you're obviously sleepy, and daddy comes and puts you in the swing, AND you promptly fall asleep, that I feel like a bad mommy for LETTING you sleep in the swing just to have a few moments to myself?

Weird, motherhood is.

Jaxon Week 9

This was a week of trepidation because we knew that at the end of it, you were scheduled for a well child visit with the doctor, which entailed shots. Ugh.

Anyway, seeing that you were getting bigger, and now able to wear them, we broke out the socks that your daddy's cousin Geoff had sent you, which was a collection of Cowboy Boots socks that were part of your baby registry.

Sometimes you can get clingy, but mommy has other stuff to take care of out in the yard or around the house.. so she puts you in the Infantino Easy Rider, and totes you off to join her adventures.. We have also bought a Peanut Sling and will have photos of you in that, in the next post, perhaps.

You've definitely been smiling and cooing more, and sometimes it looks like you're determined to get your point across by hook or by crook.

( Daddy quote : "Man, he's making dolphin sounds" )

Photobucket

You love baths.. it must be the relaxing warm water and "massage" that you get. Thank you Aunt Marsha for the wonderful tub.. it comes with a newborn hammock that helps keep squirmy wet babies in place so mommas don't panic so much. Here you are trying to be the Bath Time Chef.

After your warm baths, you usually start to zone out and get real sleepy. I don't blame you. :)

Maybe with all that sleep, that's why you're up to 13lbs 6oz !!!! ( Birth weight 2 months before was 7lbs 9 oz ) and 22 3/4 inches in length. I mean, children grow in their sleep, but you're up to the 80th percentile in weight for your age :) And all that on momma's nutrition too, coz for some reason, you have stopped wanting/needing formula. At your doctor's visit, the pediatrician was very pleased with your development so far and impressed by momma's "production".. LOL..

You didn't know about having to be immunized that day, but you had 2 shots in one thigh and one shot in the other, plus another oral dose. Mummy had given you baby tylenol before the appointment, but at that point, it didn't seem to have helped. You were fussier than usual when we got home, and through the night, but were pretty much back to normal the next afternoon.

Daddy quote :

( In an incredulous voice to the doctor : "Don't they double their weight at SIX MONTHS??" )

Jaxon Week 8

And the saga continues....

WEEK 8

I can't believe how big you are getting! It's almost like you grow before our eyes!

( interject with Daddy quote here:
"It's like he ate the baby we came home with!" )

Photobucket

You're still sleeping quite a bit and hopefully you get enough rest during the day to be rested enough to sleep at night ( it's a weird concept, but it's a sleep-begets-sleep scenario for babies )

Photobucket

Part of what we do to make tummy time less onerous and more fun is to have toys and stuff at your eye level to keep you intrigued/ entertained so that you can be distracted for a few more minutes at a time. It works most of the time.

You smile a lot in your sleep, but we FINALLY caught an actual "awake" smile on camera :)

Photobucket

Photobucket

Once you get to sleep at night, you pretty much sleep for 3 hours, and then start whimpering for a diaper change or for a midnight snack, and then doze off again till another 3 hours later, and after that it's pretty much snoozing till morning.
Dare I hope it is a trend that is here to stay?

Don't be smirking at me, kid :P

Jaxon Week 7

Okay so the kid is now 10 weeks and I'm tardy with keeping up. I've been writing daily though, in a "journal" and will transfer that over to the blog when I can.

WEEK 7

You're still pretty much on your own nurse-sleep schedule, with periods of wakefulness, not more than 2 hours each time, or you'll get seriously tired-cranky.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Mummy could have sworn you gave her several big smiles this week, but your daddy wasn't going to believe it till he saw it. And I have stopped documenting your feeds, seeing how you're basically being breast fed on demand and just being supplemented a couple of ounces of formula a couple of times a day..

Photobucket

Mommy's seriously jealous of your eyelashes.. They seem to be growing at an amazing speed, and are so long and yes, pretty, that mommy can't stop taking pictures of sleeping baby eyelashes.....

Photobucket

Photobucket

When you ARE awake though, we still try to schedule in a few minutes of tummy time, seeing how you're on your back all the time. You can stand it for a few minutes, but get frustrated when you aren't strong enough to lift yourself up and like that.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Daddy got a huge TV to put in the bedroom because mommy is "stuck" in there for hours on end nursing or soothing you etc. Here she is trying to entertain you ( and hopefully you in turn, learning something!) while mindlessly watching Wheel of Fortune.

Photobucket

In September 2008, Max was born, then in March 2009 you were born, followed by Azmari in April 2009. We figured out that you and Max were first cousins once removed, and you and Azmari were first cousins twice removed. Here you all are, with Grandaddy Walter for a photo op.

Of course, your (first) cousin ( once removed ) Elizabeth, and Aunt Judy wanted in on the action as well. :)
