Splash Pad on a Windy Overcast Day

The wind was blowing pretty hard that day, and it wasn't sooo very necessary to get under some shade, as it was quite cloudy.

But it was still warmish, and daddy enjoyed having the wind blow all the cool droplets of water over him as he read his News of the Day.

We had been having so many 100 - 105 F days, that on this cloudy day, you actually said the water was coolish!

A New Desk!

Well, sort of.

We have very tight quarters with very little space, being in an RV and all, but you needed a better place to do your work than at the dinner table.

Besides, sometimes you needed to do "research" on the 'puter, and some of your textbooks are online, and you needed an extension of the side table that was already there, for writing on.

ALSO, we had just bought you your first desk/table/study lamp a few days ago for study purposes as well.

Amazon tells us it will take only one day for this to get here, so, Hurray!

Kitchen Science

I would love for the day when you are in a proper lab with the proper equipment and all, but for now, it's kitchen science all the way.

We still did okay, and I hope you never stop being curious :)

Weekend Surgery

You got this game from Charles & Joy and the kids a few years back for one of your birthdays, and every now and again, we dig it back up to have a go.

I can't figure out if we turned the sound off a long time ago or what, but there is no Annoying Alarm whenever we accidentally touch the sides - only a little light that comes on.

We are both grateful for that. Hehe.

We even got in a few rounds this time :)

And what better way to enjoy a game of Operation on a hot hot summer day, than with a cool Peach Lemonade drink :)

Splash Pad Drama

First of all, we thought we would go by the one Splash Pad that we hadn't been to yet ( other than the Nelson Park one, which we went to when you were younger, but is under renovation at the moment ), and you agreed that you wanted to try it out.

When we got there, you jumped out and headed right for it.  We had told you beforehand that it didn't have a slide like some of the others, but you said you didn't mind.

Well, less than a minute later, you were saying you had changed your mind and if we could please go to one that had slides. :)  It wasn't just as exciting, I suppose, if all you had to do was run around and get drenched, when you have had a taste of the other.  Besides, the water pressure at this park during the time we were there, seemed to be less than full strength, making it just that much less enjoyable, I suppose.

So we packed up, and off we went to another one that DID have slides.

It, however, was quite covered over by a group of young girls about your age or younger.  You were very patient with them, as they were super boisterous and rambunctious...... until they kept pushing under your arms to jump line and get in front of you to get down the slide.

I saw that you were getting distressed and called you over to ask what the matter was.

"I had to wait THREE WHOLE MINUTES to get on the slide!", was your reply in a trembling voice.

Poor baby. You were too sweet and just let them shove their way through.

Daddy and I proceeded to give you some advice about firmly standing your ground and keeping your place in line without being mean or rude or shoving.

After a few failed attempts at squeezing under your armpits to cut through, the "perpetrators" finally learned to let you go first and wait their turn. :)

Who would've thunk.

Such Drama at the Splash Pad.

A Familiar Sight.

So many years now, you have sat in that same seat in the middle, in the back row.

At times you had baby cradle car seat, a proper toddler car seat, and then a booster seat to now with just a seat belt.

I still have to remind you to sit up straight in your seat, and not slumped to one side - so that you can actually get the protection from the seat belt, but most of the time you are pretty good about that.

Nowadays, though, you are seldom in the car without a book or your little music machine ( aka my old phone ) and earbuds.

Ah, our growing boy.

Trouble in Da House!

So we dug out the Trouble Board Game and played a few rounds.

Such the Meh face!

Nowadays, at every opportunity, you try to measure your height against mine. You are still about 3 or so inches from my height, but CATCHING UP FAST!

Ouch!

I was at my "desk" when you came running out your room, yelling "OUCH! OUCH!".

You said that the bottom of your foot was suddenly hurting like crazy, but you hadn't stepped on or bumped into anything.  You had gotten up from your chair and then POW, the pain was there.

You pointed to the fleshy pad between the 4th and little toe, and as I looked closely, I could see a little dot and a welt starting to grow.

The pain wasn't subsiding, and I couldn't see a thorn in the area, so I asked you to show me where you started having the pain. My mommy-spidey senses was telling me it might very well be a scorpion sting, by the history and physical examination.

Sure enough, right there by your chair, was the blasted arachnid. You must have stepped on it when you got up out of your chair and it attacked then.

I immediately grabbed the first thing I could put my hands on, and squashed it.

Then, we quickly put some ice onto your sting area, and I made you take some antihistamine and tylenol.

After a while, the pain subsided, and at the end of the day, one couldn't even tell that you had been stung.

Daddy then said scorpions start moving about and getting into homes when the weather starts to change dramatically - and yup, we are getting into a slew of over 100F days which will last for a while.

We were glad you were not allergic to the sting, and that we found the scorpion and it wasn't still lurking about, ready for its next strike.

Splash Pads Galore

We have been visiting the Splash Pads around Abilene, and decided on the one over at Sears Park this time.

It also had 2 slides and lots of water features, like the one we went to last week.

What a way to cool off in these crazy temperatures.

p/s I made sure to spray on the SPF 100 Sun Block REALLY GOOD.
