9 month Visit and Zooming all over the place

You turned 9 months yesterday, kiddo!

Can you believe you were in mummy's tummy for that length of time as well? We went for a well child's visit at the pediatrician's today. You are 21 1/2 pounds and 28 3/4 inches in length, both around the 75th percentile. The doctor was quite pleased with your growth and development. Hurray! PLUS, there were no shots this visit. Phew!

Photobucket

Turns out the red spots on your back that daddy was afraid was ringworm, is actually eczema, and hopefully the hydrocortisone cream etc that the doctor advised us to use will work. You also have a bit of a cold, which has made for some disturbance in your sleep the last few nights. We got some saline drops which hopefully might do the trick.

Photobucket

You're crawling almost like a pro now, getting around pretty fast, and pulling up to stand at every opportunity. You can cruise a few steps, but still trying to find your footing, so to speak. Time to think about getting a Thud Guard??

Going Places

Photobucket

So you've started doing ACTUAL crawling now. Not just the commando type dragging crawling that you had been doing. Now you're on your knees and getting around more efficiently. I have to say you seem to really favor this new way of transportation as well. I don't blame you.

You're also quite capable of pulling yourself up on the couch etc now. Way to go, baby! Pretty soon we'll be cruising and walking! I know it's going to be more strenuous on me, but hey, what milestones, eh?

More Firsts

Monday, Dec 14th 2009

#1. After your bath and I was ready to say "All Done" and get you out of the tub, you had "that" look on your face, and I KNEW you were pooping.. I quickly scooped you out of the tub and kinda held you dangling to make sure you were totally done. :P Later we made daddy dump the wash water down the toilet :)

#2. You pulled up to stand after your bath, in the bedroom. We had changed you into your jammies and you were just crawling around the bed, and wanted to pull up on the pillow that was propped up against your pack n play. Daddy and I held the pillow in place and you struggled a little, but then you stood up!! Hurray for our strong boy!

#3 Your first photo with Santa.. Read all about it HERE

Update..

you've pulled up to stand a few more times! I have a "chest" in my study and you pulled up on it a couple of times today while we were hanging out in there! Woohoo! Go baby Go!

You love Mascots

Sometimes when you're playing with your toys, mummy has Nick Jr going in the background on TV. We watch Dora, The Wonder Pets, Ni Hao Kai Lan and Max and Ruby. Which one is your favorite? It is hard to tell, but I know which characters are your favorites.

You love the Map from Dora, and Moose, who is the mascot for the Nick Jr channel.

Photobucket

Moose comes on between programs and usually plays a puzzle or sings a song, and each time when you hear the Moose's voice, you stop what you're doing and start watching the TV!

Photobucket

The same goes for the Map.. You might not pay attention to any part of Dora, but when Map comes on and sings his little "I'm the Map" jingle, you immediately turn to the TV !

Random Observations

Daddy came in while you were nursing and was quite tickled when you would push your face into my chest and go "ughhhhhh", which you do quite often when you're sleepy :)

You've been quite the "patter", patting mummy and daddy... I read online that at this point, you are starting to show affection and love, and touching and patting was a way of showing it.. awwwwww. You love it when I hold you in front of the mirror.. you will try to pat pat your own image and kiss the kid in the mirror :)

On the bleh side of life, you seem to have developed a little bit of diaper rash. I've been putting desitin on it, hoping it will subside in a few days.

You love to look for the cat at meal time when you're sitting on your booster seat, and always want to reach down to touch Tabby

Your face always brightens up whenever we play Pat a Cake, you love the actions and the rhyming, i suppose. You like to hold your own bottle, and you still rake at pictures in a book :)

You've started being really inquisitive during bath time and will want to move from one position to another, first facing one way, then sideways, then the other way. You're wanting to grab and explore everything - the red pail, the faucet ( mummy ordered a faucet cover, phew ) and the drain, especially. :P

Oh, and you made your first extremely noticeable sign today!

Across the Globe

Aunt Marsha helped Kong Kong and Po Po set up Skype on Kong Kong's computer and we started skyping with them a few days ago! There were a few minor bugs but it was great to see and talk to them! They hadn't ever seen you in person or "live" before, so it was such a delight for them and us too! They talked to you, watched you chew on stuff, scoot around and just be plain adorable :)

Photobucket

Aunt Joanna and your two cousins, Glendon and Evangeline are now back in Malaysia as well, so we've got to get HER to set her computer up so that you can get to know your cousins as well!

Hurray for Technology!

Baby's First Thanksgiving

Most of the pics are HERE on mummy's blog, but here are a couple more :)

Allen and Anastasia were really excited to see you. The last time they saw you was when you were just a teeny tiny 8 week or so old baby. Allen wanted to hold you and he thought you liked him :)

Happy First Thanksgiving, Baby

We'll see what kind of good grub we can let you have at Grandad's today :) Yum Yum.

There are so many things we are thankful for, but YOU are on the very tippy toppest of the list, schnookums :)

Teeth Update

Your second tooth came out over a week ago, and is peeking out just a little bit more every day. I haven't noticed any top teeth coming out yet, but it'll just be a matter of time. I've started cleaning your teeth, gums and tongue with a wet washcloth - I remember MY mother doing that to us kids when we were little. I'm glad I get to spend all this time with you because time really does fly past, and you are now almost 8 months and we've loved every second of it.

The Boy is going places...

Literally.

You've started pulling with your arms and pushing off with your legs and the day before yesterday, you actually got where you were heading for. i.e the vent on the floor. Woah.

Adventures in Crawling

Or at least trying to.

So far you've gotten where you've set your mind on going by a combination of rolling, dragging, slithering and squirming.. Right now, you're at the point where, whenever we put you down anywhere to sit, you will immediately get on your hands and knees. You aren't quite crawling yet, but you're learning to steady yourself in this position, rocking back and forth, assessing the situation and figuring out the pushing off on the knee thing.

Just in Case

Your second tooth is coming out, and although you don't seem to be too perturbed, I thought it would be better to be armed with some Baby Orajel just in case...

Photobucket

Otherwise, you love to stand stand stand. These days when I try to sit you up from a "laying down" position, you would stiffen your legs to make me hold you in a standing position! :) You can hold on to stuff and stand on your own for a little bit now.

2 Trips

One to Lake Clyde on Monday - full story HERE on mummy's blog

and one to the doctor's today - for your flu shots. Bleh. Can you believe I've saved all the bandaids from your shots, for er, posterity? We might have to call that Extreme Scrapbooking/Hoarding/Packratting or something.

Ow.

When you're sleepy and nursing, sometimes you "gum" at me as you try to fall asleep. Now that you are teething, that is getting to be quite treacherous.

Daddy calls this your "grown up" face. :)

I can't help it..

if I am a first time parent and don't want my child to miss out on ANYTHING, and that includes toys, toys and more toys. So far we've been pretty good about not just getting anything and everything out there. I mean, it seems like every other toy out there either beeps or flashes or sings or does SOMETHING automated.

It can get QUITE annoying.

So I thought we'd go "old school" and went ahead and got you some "stacking rings" and a "shape sorter" thingy.

Photobucket
Photobucket

Right now there isn't really much stacking or sorting going on... You're doing more like unstacking and banging together and picking the shapes out of the container or dumping them, with a healthy bit of "gumming" going on.

Photobucket

As time goes by, I'm sure you'll figure it out, but right now I'd like to think that you're "thinking outside the box" and developing your grasps and working those little hand muscles and improving your dexterity, hand eye coordination etc. etc.

Photobucket

At some point, I may tape over a few of the holes of the shape sorter - there's like 5 different shapes - and we'll try to do a couple of shapes at a time. Till then, have lots of fun just getting to know your new toys!

Adventures in Finger Foods

Yesterday, I experimented with giving you some bread to hold/eat on your own, and you did admirably well! And then, of course, you mashed the bread into your hair..

Photobucket

Oooo, and we got a picture of the infamous first tooth-to-be! Woohoo! You've been doing really good on that front. I haven't really noticed any "extra" fussiness, but of course, you may be witholding the melodrama for when the tooth peeks out a little more. Oh well, we'll take it one day at a time.

Real Food

Every night, before I go to bed, I make an entry into my "Jaxon Diary" on the day's goings-on. I haven't been really good at transfering them over to the blog, but I hope to do so from now. Anyway, here's from the last couple of days..

10/19 Monday

Yesterday, while waiting for dinner time, I got a piece of bread and started breaking little pieces for you to try chewing on.. you didn't protest when I put them in your mouth ( before, you would have made an awful face and turned away ). You looked like you were enjoying bread! Then at dinner time, I fed you some of your puffs and you ATE THEM!

Photobucket

Today, for dinner, we had carrot and potato soup with ayam masak merah, squash and rice. I gave you little pieces of rice, potatoes, squash and carrot, and you ate them all!!!!! Actual proper "human food" !!!

Have I also mentioned that you had started since a couple of weeks ago, to actually look for stuff that you drop? Khamazing.

Photobucket

10/18 Sunday

I forgot to put socks on you today for church.. my bad :P You wore your denim jacket and looked mighty cute :P Your restaurant high chair cover came in the mail yesterday and so we tried it out at lunch at Henry D's today. It worked great! Yay! I think you've finally figured out a little bit how to use the sippy cup. Hurray!

Also, during your bath today, you kept hitting the water to hear the splash splash sound and then play with the little bubbles that you made with all that splashing!

Nowadays when I open up a book for us to read, you don't grab it to chew on it rightaway.. instead, you try to rake at the pictures in the book almost like as if you didn't quite comprehend that those were 2D pictures and not real objects. :)

You love to play with the tags on things instead of the actual toys sometimes..

Photobucket

Photobucket

but that helps you practise your pincer grasp, so that's all good :) And then of course the tags end up soggy in your mouth.. :)

Germaphobe

We have a portable booster high chair for you which we bring to Grandad's for Letti Thursday and which for the rest of the time, is latched to a chair at the dining table at home, and is where mummy feeds you breakfast and dinner.

However, we also eat at Rosa's with almost all of the extended family for Taco Tuesday on a weekly basis. So, instead of having to do/undo the chair each time, or having to wipe down restaurant high chairs each and every time, I went ahead and bought .. get this.. a RESTAURANT HIGH CHAIR COVER for you from ebay. It folds up conveniently into this little bag that we can leave in the car. As it is, we leave your shopping cart cover in its little bag in the car :)

Pumpkin Patch

A couple of weeks ago, daddy and I brought you to the ( only ) pumpkin patch in town. You had had your shots the day before and wasn't feeling too good but you are always curious about everything around you, and so you were looking around and soaking it all up.

Going on a hay ride on the back of a big tractor trailer

You won't believe how many shots it took to get one where you were smiling :)

Photobucket

There's just way too many things to see around here :)

Photobucket

Must have been the prickly hay... or not feeling well from shots

Photobucket

I don't blame you. I'd freak out too if I had to get that close to Deputy Dawg here....

Table Manners

Photobucket

Dinner is usually the time when the family comes together and has a meal together. Most days, when I'm feeding you breakfast ( and myself as well, if I possibly could ), daddy is still snoozing. And, you usually nurse for lunch, and I'm sooo over nursing you at the dining table. :) Which leaves us with dinner time. Usually you sit in your little booster seat with your little tray toys, between mummy and daddy.

AND, usually halfway through our meal, sometimes while being FED, you would start grunting and your face would turn a little red from "exertion". Daddy gets the most incredulous looks on his face when you do that. :P

Photobucket

Jaxon : *nghhhhhh ugghh unngggghhhhhHHH mmnggghhhh*

Daddy : Good grief, boy, do you have to be so obvious???

Mummy : *chuckle*

Fun in the "Sun"

We played out in the yard today !

Photobucket

We had bought a bed spread thing from the Salvation Army store just for this purpose too. You were still feeling the after effects of the shots you had yesterday, and feeling a little out of sorts, but otherwise you were quite enthralled with being outside. More photos on momma's regular blog HERE

6 Months Well Child Visit

You had your 6 month visit with the doctor today. It all went well and you cried when the lady gave you your shots ( 4 of them including the first half of the flu vaccine ), but only for a minute. My Brave Boy! Here's your stats at the moment

Weight : 20 pounds
Length : 27 inches

I don't think I caught the head circumference. The doctor said that you were around the 75th percentile for all the measurements. We had been joking that you had lost some jowls! :)

The doctor said that we could try to feed you finger foods now. You had been doing the 1st foods since you were 4 months, and started with the 2nd foods about a week ago. We bought some of the Walmart "puff" dealies for you, and tried to break off a minute piece to feed you with it. You made SUCH a face and didn't like the texture or something. I guess we'll come back to it when we've done more 2nd and 3rd foods. You DID, however, like raking them around on your tray, and practising your pincer grasp with the little A shaped puffs.
