We love Art and Nature,

so why not combine the two?

We had gotten a couple of rocks at the Fair, where they  had Rock Painting, but we were never able to attend one of their sessions.

So one fine day, I got out our paints, and we got to work.

You wanted to paint yours in the same manner as your "other" pet rock, Chester,

while I thought I would paint Silky.

Flu Shot.. CHECK!

This year, you got your flu shot with us at the HEB Pharmacy.  We had called up your paediatrician's office, but they wouldn't have a spot open for a flu shot until sometime in November.

Well, we wanted it done as soon as we could and asked if it would just the same if you had your shot when Daddy and I had our shots at HEB, and the doctor's assistant said, yes!

So off we went, and while we were waiting, you were quite content to play with the curtains and call it the VIP First Class waiting area :)

You took the shot really well, with hardly any grimacing or anything.

Routine

You have walked these stone "seat" pathway, shall we call them, sooo many times, week after week. :)

We often remind you to be careful on them, especially on rainy days, but you love love love walking on those steps, and who can deny a little boy his being a little boy? :)

G4 W6 We can't get enough of our little microscope!

It would seem like we are whipping out our little microscope every chance we get.  :D

We were learning about parts of a plant, and veins and stomata and whatnot, so WHY NOT??

We were not disappointed.

We saw little hairs on the leaf,

we saw the veins close-up,

And check out those stomata and their guard cells!

I mean, seriously!

Not quite Captain Underpants,

but we redeemed some points at HEB with our accumulated Buddy Points, and got the Super Hero Combo package a few weeks back...!

And then this week, we got the matching Wrist Band when we struck Instant Winner!

Someone was super enthusiastic and ripped right into it the moment we got home.

More Mini Sports!

This week it was Basketball's turn at the Library.

G4 W5 Library Books This Week

Doesn't seem like much, but some books are thicker than others, and take quite some time :)

YEAST!

As part of school, learning about different plants and animals, we had an experiment with Yeast.

We added some honey ( we didn't have sugar in the house ), warm water and yeast into a water bottle,  and watched it start to froth.

We added a balloon over the top to be able to actually see what the frothiness was doing.
And boy, did it froth.

You were quite tickled to see the balloon start to get rigid and get bigger.

We transfered some of the mixture from the bottle onto a makeshift slide and used our trusty little microscope to look and see what we could make out.

It was way better than I could have hoped for.
We could see the little yeast cells - not in much detail, but we could tell that they were the yeast cells and if we imagined a little, we could see BUDDING, even.

And then after a while, the CO2 started taking over and all we could see were massive ( well, relatively speaking ),  were bubbles that got bigger as we watched.

Woohoo, SCIENCE!

Sports, miniaturised

The Home Team Exhibition by the Smithsonian is still going on upstairs, but downstairs they have a little corner with a mini Football Game.

Daddy says that he used to be really good at this in college, and no one would play with him because of his prowess :)
Anyway, he decided to give you a pointer or two, and pretty soon you were getting the little folded pieces of paper between the uprights. ( listen to me use football lingo! )

Library Books This Week

G4 W4 Spelling Police

Or in this case, the Spelling Clown.

We were reading about Leif Erikson, and came across a spelling mistake that got you giggling for the longest time.
Can you spot it yet?

HEB Loot

Well, technically speaking, we had to redeem our Buddy Bucks Points for it, but still.

500 Buddy Points well spent for a hero's cape and mask :)

W3 Library Books!

When I borrowed the first Penderwicks book, I didn't think you would actually attempt to get through it, seeing how it was all just words with no pictures at all.  Most of the books you read these days are basically chapter books, but they have some illustration in there just about every other page.

But you completely surprised me after you finished the first one and enjoyed it!
I then asked if you would like for us to borrow the next one in the series and you said, "Yes!".
MATURITY, I tell ya! Now I have to go ahead and put the next book on hold at the library.. onward and upward!

Muddy Puddles Woods

It's been a while since we had enough rain to have muddy enough puddles for you to splash around in, but this week, it has been raining just about EVERY DAY.

It didn't take very long for you to be asking if you could PLEASE PLEASE go out and play. :)
