Week 5 & 6

Week 5

Male bonding time....
Daddy has you in a little Snugli carrier, ready to explore the sights and sounds outside in the yard.....we also have an Infantino Easy Rider  that we received at the baby shower, but we are now thinking of getting something along the lines of a peanut shell sling.

You love looking around and taking in everything with your ever-improving vision, and can follow objects that mummy shows you from side to side.

You look so little in this picture compared to the 8 - 10 oz feeding bottle.  We sometimes feed you pumped mommy-milk with it, but mainly to supplement with a little bit of formula when you've literally drained mommy's supply and are still hungry for more.  Mommy nurses you on demand but sometimes growth spurts can be particularly brutal.

You have recently learned that if you are napping or sleeping, and wake up, you can sometimes soothe yourself back to sleep by sucking on your fist. Of course, that makes for quite a sticky hand sometimes :)

You had your first major pooperage incident the other day, and leaked out the leg part of the diaper, onto mommy's shirt, as well as up the back of the diaper onto YOUR back.

Mommy quickly got daddy to come look; daddy's reaction was horror followed by a resounding "Run Away!", whilst mommy grinned and whipped out the camera.

We've been trying to do "tummy time" with you, to help you develop strong neck and arm muscles, among other things.. and so far, you can do tummy time for about 5 minutes or so at a stretch. Each week we see you be able to lift your head just that little bit higher :)

Your sleep patterns are still kind of erratic, which is expected, although you ARE sleeping a little bit longer these days.. I suppose your tummy can hold more now and you are able to be satiated for a longer period of time before needing to feed again.

But being your worry wort mom, I worry when you don't get enough sleep, and I worry when it feels like you've slept too long! How ridiculous is that?

You are also growing so fast ( babies grow in their sleep? ) that mommy has had to sort through your clothes and put away those that you can't fit in anymore, and swap them for sizes that would fit.  Thank God for cousin Max's clothes!

Week 6

Obviously you spend a bunch of time with mommy, and you might not remember this as you get older, but mommy spent a lot of time with that SHIRT that she has on in this picture, mainly because it gives you easy access for feeding!

We've been trying to read to/ read with you, and have several pretty neat soft cloth "baby blessings" books which, when the mood strikes you, you really are enthralled with.

Here you're doing your Dragon Ball hair impersonation.

Although tummy time isn't your favorite thing right now, we're sure that when you get stronger, you will love being more in control of those ( for now ) flailing arms and legs..

One of the more exciting things that happened that week was you got to ride in a police car!
One of our neighbors, who lives behind our place, is a state trooper. One day, daddy's truck died by the side of the road on the way home from PICKING IT UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP AFTER HAVING REPAIRS DONE.... and our neighbor was passing by and gave us a lift home! Can you spot the shotgun shells and radar stuff in the pictures ??

Daddy quotes :

"You look just like your momma,,,,,
Couldn't you try to look a little bit like me?" *smiles*

"He's got a crease in his thighs where there isn't a joint!"

"Wow, when he wears his hospital/newborn clothes now, he's got this midriff-baring thing going on, they're so small already"

oh and speaking of considering the peanut shell, i am a huge advocate of the Ergo carrier - http://www.ergobabycarrier.com/
loved loved using it for Jamesy and now already using it for Cal with an infant insert. Even now, with Jamesy being 15kg, Chris can backpack carry him when he gets too tired to walk and I use the buggy for Cal instead. Couldn't recommend that enough - different style carrier to the Peanut Shell. Both equally fab in their own ways.
Btw, you won't have any tips on how to wash Lansinoh out of breastpads would you? Mine seem to leave awful grey stains and don't seem to come out! Urgh!

Flailing arms and legs. With both of my children, it used to freak me a little when their startle response would send their arms and legs spazzing out. I was really happy when that was over.

I love seeing him grow. I know you must be excited. It is great that we have digital technology as when my daughter was a baby, you had to wait for film to be developed and that would require leaving the house.

Best wishes
Annemarie

Have you looked at bumgenius 3.0 cloth diapers? They are AWESOME. Annnd, environmentally friendly. They adjust to different sizes, so you don't need to buy new ones each time..... Mei.
