Grade 2 Week 24

What with all the Lego Batman craze at this point back in time, I was glad to find The Essential Guide!

I try to keep the books that we borrow quite diverse, and you just absorb it all in like a sponge.

I mean, to go from Western Tall Tales to Eastern Celebrations to everything in between.

We borrowed a book on Shadow Play, and you were eager to try out the different hand positions.  We had a wonderfully brilliant setting sun coming through one of the windows, just right for making shadow puppets. :)

Then there was all the Punxsutawny Phil business :)  Daddy made sure you watched Groundhog Day this year, and we all enjoyed it very much. I love the expression on the Guy in The Top Hat's face, looking down at Phil, who seems to be motioning his verdict :) Also, there is TREASURE and FOSSILS underground in the dirt/cross section view :) I LOVE the thought and creativity that went into this little picture / poster.

You asked for a craft, and we tried to come up with one that you hadn't previously done.  This one that we came up with was similar to the ones you had done before, but you enjoyed it nevertheless,

and it turned out pretty adorable.

BUT not as adorable as this little boy who offered to help me change the sheets during one of our breaks.

You currently love to draw, especially what seems to be story boards, or whole stories in a picture :) Love the imagination and creativity.

Grade 2 Week 23

Hurray, More Books! We had some pretty funny ones this week :)

It was the Chinese New Year season, and so you asked me for some red paper and went off to construct your own huge lantern/firework thingy.

You have been doing quite a bit of that lately - using paper, sticky tape and glue to make all kinds of craftiness :)

We had some leftover CNY stickers from some years ago, which you used to make a Chinese New Year card.

and we made fortune telling dragons, which you had a grand time playing with. :)

Grade 2 Week 22

We were still on our winter/snow kick, sort of out of obligation to the season, even though winter seemed to have bypassed our region.


We watched the animated series, Revolting Rhymes, and so I thought I would borrow the book from the library so that we could read it together.


We are continuing our Spanish studies, and you are loving the lessons..

We did rocks in Science this week, and as always, you love relating what we study in school with the world around you.  We went outside to collect a wide variety of rocks and proceeded to examine, sort and draw them.


It wasn't all work either. Daddy stopped by the park so you could work off some of that boy energy :)

Grade 2 Week 21

Notice the really long absence?

I hadn't been well on and off for a bit, and then I somehow hurt my back really badly at some point. It's been getting better slowly, but I still can't sit or stand for all that long.

ANYWAY, it's been so long that I can't really remember all that much more about what we did on a certain week and I will be just relying heavily on the pics that I have.

This was back in January, so we were still in the throes of winter. Yeah, right.  I mean, we had some flurries like twice this winter, both times where there was NO accumulation whatsoever.

You were very disappointed.

BUT we still kept to the Winter and Snow theme in our library books.

We learned a bit about landforms and watched a video on Volcanoes,

and FINALLY we got to do The Volcano Project.

You wanted to do every step,

and look at that face.. you were just over delighted. And insisted on doing the experiment OVER and OVER and OVER. :)

We also did some art with our chalk pastels, using the book Snowmen at Night as a teacher.

We did shadows, shading, composition..

and I think you did super well.

and then of course, you wanted to work more with the pastels,

We read and talked about MLK Jr., 

and did a fantastic craft project copied from a pin from Pinterest.
