Grade 2 Week 49 ( July 23th - 29th )

We have started on the "The Creature from My Closet" series, and so far you are enjoying the books.

You loves silliness, and there's plenty of that at the library :)

We continue to explore other cultures and countries,

and also some old faithfuls.

Since you love to read anyway, we filled out the Summer Reading Club log in the Summer edition of HEB's Buddy Magazine, and sent it in.  You were thrilled when less than 2 weeks later, a package came in the mail, addressed to YOU!  You received a certificate and a nifty T-Shirt, which you put on right away :)

Here's an update on the herbs that we planted.  They're starting to peek out of the soil,

and in just another day or so, they peeked out even more!

We read in just about any position we desire,

revel in smoothie mustaches,

and love our Teddy Soft Bakes!

Grade 2 Week 48 ( July 16th - 22nd )

I am grateful to live in a town where library services are readily available and free for residents.  An added bonus are the various amenities, including one which we use ALL the time, the Interlibrary Loan system. Now THAT is a blessing.

We would not have been able to complete the various series of books that the little boy enjoys. 

One would think that with all the time that we have spent at the library, and the amount of children's books that we have borrowed over time, that we could never find anything else new or interesting, but it's as if the library has a bottomless abyss of books.

I have been trying to include more and more stories from a wide variety of nations and cultures into our reading, and am thankful that they keep your attention well.

You still love your little tent that you have had for ages, and could fit into so nicely when you were little.
Fitting into it isn't quite as simple as before, seeing how you are quickly catching up to MY size, but where there is a will, there is a way.

We haven't been doing school so intensely during the summer, but we still get some work done, seeing how we are doing #YearRoundSchool

You still love to doodle in your work, sometimes before you are done with the actual work.  It's cute and imaginative, and so I allow you to do it, while keeping an eye to make sure you actually do more work than doodling.

You continue to fill up  your Crazy Comix book,

and introduce the readers to more and more ways to draw and doodle.

Here you are, sketching in one of your sketch pads.  Notice the wet hair? You have started to shower by yourself for a few weeks now.  You expressed interest in showering by yourself, and at first I stayed outside the shower stall to keep an eye, give encouragement and pointers, and slowly transitioning to you doing everything by yourself.  Now, I still stay close by, but you are in there by yourself from start till finish.

We were at the library the other day, when they were decorating little pots to plant herb seeds in.  We took several home with us as we had arrived late, to do when we got home. There was Parsley, Basil, Cilantro and Dill seeds.

We both decorated 2 cups each,


and you transfered the soil we had brought back with us, into the cups, as well as scattered the seeds into the cups and covering the seeds with soil carefully.


I try to encourage and teach and mold you to be as sweet and good a person as I can, but many times, it seems like YOU are the one teaching me patience and kindness and forgiveness.

Stay sweet and we love you muchly, little boy.

Grade 2 Week 47 ( July 9th - 15th )

You're getting to be quite the Chapter Book reader.  Of course, there's a still a lot of illustrations in the books we borrow, but if they keep your interest in the books, we welcome them!

We continue to love Patricia Polacco and her books which share with her many of her adventures and the people she loved as she was growing up.

Of course, books can also have OTHER uses..

Speaking of books, you have been quite the prolific writer/artist.  You have started your own comic book as well as "A Guide to Doodling" book, as well as sketching in a sketch book.

So far, I have scanned your Comic Book into pdf form and will do the same with your other works.

One of your characters is Monty Moose, and in the panels below, you have even incorporated YOURSELF into the story!

Since Poh Poh taught you some basic coloring skills, you have been trying to color the way she taught you, and you are getting to be so much better!

One thing you love to do, is when we get to the Jello aisle at Walmart or HEB, you like to put the different jello boxes together that make up a scene or a face. In the case below, it is the minions.

We *heart* games...

I have had this pack of DIY origami animals for a while now, but didn't think you had the patience or perhaps dexterity to do it till now.

So we brought it out and you had a grand time folding along with me.  The easy ones were not a problem for you, but for the harder ones, you followed closely to my instructions.

The rooster one was hard, even for me, and so you just let me do it :)

The boys were here again this week, and I always love to see how much fun you have together.

The big surprise of the week was when we took you to the DRIVE IN! It was a complete surprise to you, and you were totally thrilled!

We watched "Despicable Me 3" and "Cars 3" ! It was terribly late by the time we got home, but we made an exception for your bedtime this one time.

We end this post with you getting me to watch your homemade Whoopie Cushion.
And it was pretty effective too!

Grade 2 Week 46 ( July 2nd - 8th )

We started borrowing the Origami Yoda series, and you are enjoying them, along with more of Big Nate and the ever wacky Andy Griffiths.

You are at an age now where you read a lot for the stories and tales, but also for information.  So, information put forth in an interesting way makes for a wider read Jaxon. :)

You were very enamoured by the marionettes that you had a chance to encounter last week, and asked if we could borrow some books to see if we might try to make some.

We also got some Patricia Polacco books ( I mean, this woman's books are amazing ), and a couple more Ms Frizzle's Adventures books, which were so fun that you almost forget you are learning so much!

I am still encouraging your journaling.  You enjoy doing it, especially the drawing part, but I still need to remind you to do it on a regular basis.

Also, here we have Jaxon being a pro with his Pororo chopsticks and enjoying a fruit popsicle.
I have made more popsicles for you this summer than I have all the years of your life combined.
i.e. A BUNCH!

The highlight of this week was seeing the boys as they came to visit their Aunt Patsy.

You just gotta love well mannered, well behaved little boys who love your son. :)
