G3 W39

sidenote: I should have learned my lesson by now, and be more consistent and regular in posting, as I am now trying to catch up from way back in May/June. Hoy.

Have I mentioned how easy it is to get you to read? That's because you LOVE to read. At the moment, we have 2 books in the car because you could hardly stand to not to be reading as we ride along.

I still try to get a wide spectrum of books to read every week.  Sometimes it's biographies, sometimes it's just silly tales, sometimes it is something a little more serious.

Sometimes it's because we are learning a certain topic at school.

Other times, it's just for the fun of it.

Also, we noticed that you had some blackheads on your nose. I don't know how many 9 year olds have to do the Biore Strip on their noses, but we did for you, and it worked like a charm.

As I have mentioned before, you love experiments, and this time we were making stalagtites and stalagmites out of a solution of super salted water.

You are quite good at doing work on your own, reading instructions and going ahead with what needs to be done.  The actual experiment itself though, still needs assistance a lot of the time.

I try to make sure there is some hands-on work on most days that will help you understand better the lesson of the day, and so that you might remember it better.

That doesn't mean there aren't times when 2 boxes of tissue paper spark off your imagination. :)

We drove over to the Umbrella Park one day, and while you were glad to revisit it after quite a while, it was a little sad to see how faded the equipment were, and how you didn't fit in a whole bunch of them anymore!

G3 W38

Some weeks are just kind of slow...

or maybe I'm the one who's getting slow...

While going through stuff in the "little house" aka shed, we found one of the little "cars" you used to ride as a toddler. I think you might have been a little interested, but not too impressed. :D

You look forward to our weekly visit to the indoor playground, where you get to romp out of the sun, and make new friends all the time.

CHESS!

I have never been any good at chess.

That is assuming I ever play the game.

Which I am horrendously intimidated by.

When I see someone playing chess, whatever age they are, I'm like, "WOAH, KOWTOW TO THE MENSA MASTERS" or something.

THIS is me, 5 minutes into a chess game.

YOU, on the other hand, with your mind like the ultimate sponge, are loving it.  Honest to goodness.

Knowing how it is a handicap or mental block of mine that I cannot possibly get past at this point, I knew I had to get you off to a good start on learning chess.  I am not really the Tiger Mom type, but I would really love for your horizons to keep broadening as much as they possibly can.

SO, a few days ago, I signed you up an account on ChessKid.com, which is apparently the kiddy arm of Chess.com.  Their content is pretty much freemium, and that works for my budget.

So, instead of like me throwing in the towel in the gif above, you are like,

DISCO!!!

G3 W37 ( Way back in late April, hoy )

Read Read Read...... I try to read with you most of the time, but it seems like you are reading on your own more and more nowadays.

Especially the chapter books. You devour those.

This one, it's a mystery to me. I have no idea. By the time I realised this, I didn't have the records in the library account anymore. Nyeh.

We are still forging ahead with learning, and you still try to alleviate the monotony by amusing yourself with what you have on hand.

And speaking of Silky, this is what he does when he is not allowed into your room, when he is being extraordinarily destructive with window blinds and whatnot.
We did a pretty interesting experiment for Science when we were learning about fossils and the like.

The results were pretty good,

and of course, it is a chance for you to get your creative juices a-flowing.

Oh, and guess who bears a resemblance to a paper towel model? LOL!

A day when you were feeling poorly.

Only to spring back and back to your usual shenanigans at the library.

Food Breakthrough?

1. You have never been a fan of tomatoes, and have always picked them out of whatever food they happened to be in.  However, this week, when we had salad with sliced cherry tomatoes, you quietly ate up all the tomato pieces!

2. At HEB, when they were handing out Shrimp Sandwich samples, you ate it all up even though there were raw onions and cut up tomato bits in there.

Later, you came to me and asked if I had noticed 1. and 2. above.  You said you were going to try new foods from now on, and expand your palate.
